Jewelry Care Information

Information

Preston & Linnie jewelry is made with a variety of materials, so each piece has unique care instructions (see bottom of page). We offer free jewelry repairs for minor wear and tear (when possible) for up to one year from purchase. Email us at hello@prestonandlinnie.com with photos and specifics.

In general, we recommend the following tips to keep your Preston & Linnie jewelry pieces looking their best:

  • To keep your jewelry from tarnishing (especially sterling silver) we highly recommend keeping your pieces in a plastic bag or airtight container when not in use. Over time, metal can slightly discolor from exposure to various environmental elements. Sterling silver naturally oxides (turns darker) with time, but can always be restored to its original finish with any sterling silver jewelry cleaner. Just be careful to only apply the chemical solution to the sterling silver (a tooth brush or q-tip works great!) and avoid getting it on other materials (such as pearls or bone).

  • Avoid jewelry contact with soaps, hairspray, moisturizers, etc.

  • Avoid wearing your jewelry at the beach, swimming pool, while exercising or playing sports. Chlorine and related chemicals can discolor and severely damage jewelry. Limit contact with rough surfaces and other metals in order to avoid scratching and changes in color.

Additional Care Instructions  |  by Collection

The Sea Petal Collection

  • Store in plastic bag or airtight container to keep metal looking new.

  • Use damp cloth with soap and water to clean petals.

  • If necessary, you can use sterling silver jewelry cleaner on the metal on all sterling silver metal pieces.

The Lava Collection

  • Store in plastic bag or airtight container to keep metal looking new.

  • Brush metal and lava with damp cloth if needed.

  • If necessary, you can use jewelry cleaner on the metal and clasp. Use appropriate metal cleaner for the different metals (sterling silver or brass).

  • If your lava is looking dull and you want to give it a ‘shine’ you can apply a natural oil (like coconut oil) with a cloth and ‘polish’ your lava rock.

Camel Bone Collection

  • Store in plastic bag or airtight container to keep sterling silver looking new.

  • Brush bone with a damp cloth when needed.

  • If necessary, you can use sterling silver jewelry cleaner on the necklace, ring and earring connections, but use a q-tip or toothbrush and try to avoid getting the cleaner on the the bone, as it will corrode with repeated chemical contact.

Pearl Cluster Collection

  • Store in plastic bag or airtight container to keep sterling silver looking new.

  • Sterling silver clasp: Clean clasp with any sterling silver jewelry cleaner, avoiding getting the solution on the pearls. Rinse off solution with water once silver is bright again.

Away With Me Collection

  • Store in plastic bag or airtight container to keep gold leaf looking new.

  • Brush with a damp cloth when needed.

  • Do not use any chemical jewelry cleaners on the metal. Brass is purposely oxidized to be darker, and any jewelry cleaner will remove it.

  • Be careful not to drop this piece. While the cement is very strong, it can crack.

Lucite Bubble Necklace

  • Store in plastic bag or airtight container to keep sterling silver looking new.

  • Brush lucite with a damp cloth when needed.

  • If necessary, you can use sterling silver jewelry cleaner on the connections, chain and clasp but use a q-tip or toothbrush and try to avoid letting the solution sit on the connections for too long, as it can dissolve the adhesive to secure the connections over time.
